It’s Elderflower season!
Join us in making West Michigan’s ultimate summer beverage.
St Steve’s mid-summer elderflower harvest

Starting Mid June (mid summer’s day is June 21) we invite you join us in harvesting elderflowers for making our St Steve’s products. All our elderflower products - tea, cordial, soda, and sparkling water - start with fresh elderflowers picked from our west Michigan country side. We pay $4 a pound of fresh elderflowers in cash or if you prefer, in sodas!
A perfect free family activity that gets your family out into nature and helps us make St Steve’s beverages by picking fresh elderflowers from across West Michigan. There are a few rules that need to be followed:
A perfect free family activity that gets your family out into nature and helps us make St Steve’s beverages by picking fresh elderflowers from across West Michigan. There are a few rules that need to be followed:
- Since we use only fresh elderflowers for our soda they need to be picked and delivered to the farm the same day.
- Elderflowers should be dry, pick after 10 am so the dew dries and there is more pollen (pollen is our friend!)
- Elderflowers need to be 75% open and with no browning when picked (see video)
- Only pick the flower heads or umbels, no stems or leaves (see video)
- Do not pick flowers next to busy roads both for safety’s sake and due to pollutants.
- Always ask permission from land owners before picking.
- We recommend wearing long pants, good shoes or boots, hats, and bug spray when harvesting (it can get pretty wild out there).
- Don’t bother the elder fairies as they are hard at work… but you might hear them if you’re quiet.
- Drop off fresh flowers the day of picking at the farm for inspection and weighing and leave with cold cash or cold sodas.
What better way to enjoy a Michigan summer than being in nature and enjoying fruits of your labor right afterwards with cold sodas or sparkling waters- that you help us craft from nature’s bounty? See our Facebook page for details and opening of the season. |
