Elderflower harvest party!
We're hosting an Elderflower Harvest Party on Saturday June 24, from 10am-4pm. Come out to the farm, help pick flowers, and enjoy a refreshing elderflower soda or sparkling water! Contact us for more details |
What better way to enjoy a Michigan summer than being in nature and enjoying fruits of your labor right afterwards with cold sodas or sparkling waters- that you help us craft from nature’s bounty? Watch this video to learn how to harvest elderflowers...
Do you have Elderflowers growing near your home? Can't make it out for the harvest fest? Here's another option...
Starting Mid June (mid summer’s day is June 21) we invite you join us in harvesting elderflowers for making our St Steve’s products. All our elderflower products - tea, cordial, soda, and sparkling water - start with fresh elderflowers picked from our west Michigan country side. We pay $4 a pound of fresh elderflowers in cash or if you prefer, in sodas!
A perfect free family activity that gets your family out into nature and helps us make St Steve’s beverages by picking fresh elderflowers from across West Michigan. There are a few rules that need to be followed:
A perfect free family activity that gets your family out into nature and helps us make St Steve’s beverages by picking fresh elderflowers from across West Michigan. There are a few rules that need to be followed:
- Since we use only fresh elderflowers for our soda they need to be picked and delivered to the farm the same day.
- Elderflowers should be dry, so plan to pick after 10 am so the dew dries and there is more pollen (pollen is our friend!)
- Elderflowers need to be 75% open and with no browning when picked (see video)
- Only pick the flower heads or umbels, no stems or leaves (see video)
- Do not pick flowers next to busy roads both for safety’s sake and due to pollutants.
- Always ask permission from land owners before picking.
- We recommend wearing long pants, good shoes or boots, hats, and bug spray when harvesting (it can get pretty wild out there).
- Don’t bother the elder fairies as they are hard at work… but you might hear them if you’re quiet.
- Drop off fresh flowers the day of picking at the farm for inspection and weighing and leave with cold cash or cold sodas. PLEASE CALL US BEFORE COMING TO THE FARM to make sure we are here!
